Black 2mm 65-density embroidery foam designed for creating bold, raised 3D and puff embroidery effects on caps, apparel, bags, and other embroidered products.

Characteristics

Price is per sheet

Embroidery 3D Foam Black is a specialty 2mm embroidery foam designed to create raised, dimensional effects in machine embroidery. Placed between the garment and embroidery stitches, the foam lifts the thread above the fabric surface to produce the bold three-dimensional appearance commonly known as 3D or puff embroidery.

The 65-density foam provides a supportive foundation beneath the embroidery while allowing properly digitized satin stitches to perforate and cover the foam. After embroidery is complete, excess material can be torn away from around the design, leaving the foam contained beneath the stitches to create a clean, elevated appearance.

The 2mm thickness provides noticeable dimension without excessive bulk, making it a versatile choice for many professional embroidery applications. Black foam is especially useful beneath black and other dark embroidery threads, helping minimize the visibility of any small amounts of foam that may remain around the edges of the finished design.

3D foam is particularly popular for decorating structured caps and headwear, where raised lettering, numbers, logos, and graphic elements can create a premium retail-quality appearance. It can also be used on jackets, bags, apparel, and other compatible materials where dimensional embroidery is desired.

Successful 3D foam embroidery requires artwork specifically digitized for foam applications. Designs typically use increased stitch density, satin stitching, and appropriate edge-finishing techniques to completely cover and cut the foam while maintaining the desired dimensional effect.

Each sheet measures 11" x 11", providing a convenient size for placement on common embroidery applications while allowing the foam to be trimmed to fit individual designs and hoops.

Usage Tips
  • Use embroidery artwork specifically digitized for 3D foam applications.
  • Hoop and stabilize the garment according to the requirements of the material being embroidered.
  • Embroider any flat portions of the design before placing the 3D foam when the design combines standard and dimensional embroidery.
  • Position the foam over the area where the raised embroidery will be stitched.
  • Use a piece of foam large enough to completely cover the dimensional portion of the design.
  • Properly digitized satin stitches should perforate the foam along the edges while providing sufficient stitch coverage over the top.
  • After embroidery is complete, gently tear away excess foam from around the finished design.
  • Remove small remaining pieces carefully to avoid disturbing the embroidery stitches.
  • Match the foam color closely to the embroidery thread whenever possible to make any exposed foam less noticeable.
  • Black foam is recommended for black and other dark-colored thread applications.
  • Avoid using standard embroidery files without adjustments, as 3D foam generally requires increased stitch density and specialized digitizing techniques.
  • Test the completed design on a sample garment or similar material before beginning a full production run.
